Roque Dalton was a Salvadoran poet, journalist, and revolutionary who used his writing to fight for social justice and political change. His poetry combined sharp political critique with humor, personal reflection, and a deep love for his country. Dalton was imprisoned and exiled multiple times for his activism and was tragically assassinated in 1975 by members of his own guerrilla group. Despite his early death, he remains one of El Salvador’s most influential literary and political figures.
