Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson was a reclusive American poet known for her short, lyrical poems that explored themes like death, nature, and the inner self. She wrote nearly 1,800 poems, though only a few were published during her lifetime, often anonymously. Her unique style used slant rhyme, dashes, and unconventional capitalization. Today, Dickinson is considered one of the most important figures in American poetry.

Hope is a thing with feathers

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.
